5th Estate · New writer competition deadline extended

New writer competition deadline extended

Louise Haines, our non-fiction publisher, reports that entries for the Waitrose Food Illustrated/4th Estate new food writer competition have been coming in thick and fast …. and it’s not too late to pen your own entry. Details of the competition and how to enter can be seen here.

5th Estate has a hot tip that the judges will now accept entries up to 25th March, so if your own entry has been, er, slow roasting, it’s good news.

Hi, I have a question if you would be kind enough to answer. Has this extended deadline for WFI been made official?
Thank you.
Ana

Louise Haines, our editor here and judge on the competition, confirms that the extension of the deadline is official, and she will accept entries up to 25th March.

Hope this helps.

the 25th is a Sunday – can entries be emailed do you know?

Just spoken to Louise. She says if the entry is in the postpag on Monday morning it will be accepted.

Entries can only be posted – they will not be accepted by email.

Best of luck.

Can we hand deliver them? Either posted through the letter box on Sunday or first thing Monday morning?

Thanks.

I should think that would work.
address again is

WFI Food Writer Competition,
Unit 328,

Hello again. I tried to hand deliver my entry to the above address, but it’s on of the Mail Box companies. It’s closed on a Sunday and doesn’t have a letter box.

So I’m going to leg it there first thing tomorrow morning!

I have just discovered the WFI writing competition – and realised that the closing date was yesterday. Just in case there was any chance of getting a late entry in, I thought I would ask nicely. Faint heart never won a publishing contract, blah, blah…Of course, you may be overwhelmed with hundreds of delicious pieces of prose already, in which case I’ll just have to look forward to reading the winner. Best wishes, Sue x

can you tell me if you have chosen a winner yet?

Hi Lucy
The winner will be announced by Waitrose in their August edition of Waitrose Food Illustrated, which comes out at the end of July. I’ll make sure we feature the announcement at 5th Estate at the same time. Keepng my fingers crossed for you.
Kate

Hi Lucy

The suspense is kiling me ! Especially as I have only tonight discovered that the closing date was extended and I sent in my sumission for 1st March dead-line !

Hi Dorothy – me too. According to John Brown Publishing a winner has been picked so that’s that, I guess!

Hi Kate,
Just found this web page after wondering about the competition that i entered. I manged to get my entry in on the 1st of March deadline. Could you let me know if it was recieved at all.
Kind regards
Debbie

Hi Debbie
Your entry was received by Waitrose Food Illustrated, yes. I just asked them if they’d like to announce the winner. Apparently they want to do this at the end of July, and will be doing so in their next edition of the magazine. 5th estate is following closely!

Sorry you guys have to wait so long to hear the result – it’s out of my hands. (and Nope! I don’t know who the winner is either!)
Really hope it’s a 5th Estate reader – so best of luck.
Kate

Thanks Kate, really appreciate you getting back to me- fingers crossed! Debbie
