Catherine Brown grew in a Glasgow tenement and began her catering career at sixteen in a Clydesyde dockers’ canteen. A professional chef, food writer, critic and author of seven books on Scotland’s food culture, she is also a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. She has received three Glenfiddich Food Writing Awards and was the 2001 Guild of Food Writers’ Food Journalist of the Year.
